Without enough calcium from our diet, the body begins to draw calcium from our bones to maintain normal levels in the blood and muscles. This can gradually weaken bones and reduce bone density.
Insufficient calcium causes bone softening and weakening, known as osteomalacia. Over the long term, this deficiency increases the risk of developing osteoporosis, a condition where bones become fragile and prone to fractures.
